Aubrey Sholty

Program Coordinator - Day Habilitation

Hi, my name is Aubrey Sholty, and I began my role as the Program Coordinator for The WAVE on May 22, 2023. My degree in social work and education with an emphasis in special education from the University of South Dakota, as well as my experiences as a classroom teacher, elderly care provider, and nanny, have equipped me with the skills to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and to understand their specific needs. My most recent experience as the County Youth Coordinator for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Crawford County has provided me with invaluable experience working to deliver and evaluate high-quality programs in Crawford County. In my previous role, I oversaw twelve 4-H clubs and 225 youth enrolled in 4-H in the county. I also had a supervisory role overseeing and training the many 4-H volunteers — who were of all ages and life experiences — as well as managing the interns. I grew up on a farm between Sac City and Lake View and currently live south of Ida Grove on an acreage with my husband Mitchell and our son Braxton.

Seeing so many individuals succeed in life and being able to transition back into the community is the best part of my job. - WESCO Industries Employee
They can't tell you when you start this job there may come a time where you find you're more comfortable surrounded by people with developmental disabilities than when you are with the general population. But it happens. - WESCO Industries Employee
Until someone has had their own experience with someone with a developmental disability, they just won't understand. - WESCO Industries Employee
